Split PDF
Extract pages from a PDF or split it into separate files.
Files are processed entirely in your browser — they're never uploaded to a server.
Pull pages out of a PDF or break it into parts
Split PDF works in two ways. Extract pages copies the pages you list into one new PDF — useful for sending just the signed page or a single chapter. Split into files cuts the document into several PDFs, either by ranges you type or one file per page.
Pages are copied, not re-rendered, so text stays selectable and nothing loses quality. The original PDF is opened in your browser and isn’t uploaded or changed.
How to split a PDF or extract pages
- Click the upload area or drag one PDF onto it. Its page count appears in the file list.
- Choose Extract pages to get a single new PDF, or Split into files to get several.
- For Extract pages, type the pages you want in the “Pages to extract” box, e.g. 1-3, 5, 8-.
- For Split into files, keep “Every page as its own PDF” ticked to separate every page, or untick it and type ranges such as 1-3, 4-6, 7- — each range becomes its own PDF.
- Click the button to download. A single result arrives as a PDF; several arrive together in one ZIP file.
File names and what’s inside
- Named by page: report.pdf gives report-page-4.pdf, report-pages-1-3.pdf, or report-selected-pages.pdf when the pages aren’t consecutive.
- Several files: come as report-split.zip, with each PDF inside named the same way.
- Your order is kept: in Extract pages, typing “5, 1-3” puts page 5 first, and a page typed twice appears twice.
- Original untouched: the source PDF on your device is never modified.
- Pages only: each new file contains the chosen pages; bookmarks and fillable form fields from the original aren’t carried over.
When splitting a PDF is useful
- Sending only what matters: share the one invoice, form or chapter someone asked for instead of the whole file.
- Upload size limits: break a long document into parts that each fit a portal’s cap.
- Separating a scan batch: when a scanner saved several different documents in one PDF, give every page its own file.
- Reordering pages: list pages in the order you want and extract them into a rearranged copy.
Writing page ranges
- 7 is a single page; 2-5 is pages 2 to 5.
- 9- means page 9 to the end, and -3 means the first page to page 3.
- Commas separate entries; spaces don’t matter.
- Mistakes are caught first: a page past the end of the file, or a backwards range like 6-2, is flagged before anything downloads.
Split PDF: common questions
Can I split a PDF into single pages?
Yes. Choose Split into files and leave “Every page as its own PDF” ticked. You get a ZIP with one PDF per page.
Does splitting make the files smaller?
Each part only holds its own pages, but shared items such as embedded fonts are copied into every part, so the pieces can add up to more than the original. To reduce size, use Compress PDF.
How do I put pages back together later?
Add the split files to Merge PDF in any order and combine them into a new document.
Why won’t my PDF load?
If it’s marked password-protected, remove the protection first — this includes some PDFs that open without a password but restrict editing. Files marked unreadable are usually damaged or not really PDFs.
Is my PDF uploaded when I split it?
No. The pages are separated in your browser and the new files are saved straight to your device.
