Grammar Checker
Check text for grammar, spelling and style issues.
Your text is sent to LanguageTool to be checked and isn't stored by Brisqnex. Avoid pasting anything confidential.
Find spelling, grammar and style problems in a draft
Paste your writing and click Check text. Possible mistakes are underlined in a copy of your text, and each one gets a card that explains the problem and offers fixes you can apply with a click.
The checking is done by LanguageTool, an open-source proofreading service. When you click Check text, your text and the chosen language are sent to LanguageTool’s public API at api.languagetool.org, and the results come back to this page. Brisqnex doesn’t keep a copy, but the text does leave your device, so don’t paste passwords, contracts or anything else confidential.
How to check your text for mistakes
- Replace the sample sentence in the box with your own text.
- Choose the language. English (US) is selected at first; the list also has UK, Australian and Canadian English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Italian, Dutch and Detect automatically.
- Click Check text, or press Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac) in the box.
- Work through the cards: click a suggestion to apply it, or Ignore to dismiss the card. Clicking an underlined word jumps to its card.
Reading the results
- Spelling: words LanguageTool doesn’t recognise, which can include names, brands and specialist terms.
- Grammar: problems with how words fit together, such as “I has” instead of “I have”.
- Other labels: everything else, named after LanguageTool’s category — punctuation, capitalisation or style, for example. Spelling, grammar and these other labels each have their own underline colour.
- Suggestions: up to four per issue. “(remove)” means the fix is to delete the highlighted text.
- Editing by hand clears the results, because the positions no longer match. Click Check text again when you’re done.
When a second pair of eyes helps
- Emails and applications: catch typos before a message goes to a client, tutor or employer.
- Essays and reports: clean up a draft, then confirm it still meets the limit with the Word Counter.
- Scanned text: text pulled from an image with Image to Text (OCR) often has misread letters that show up as spelling errors.
- Writing in another language: check German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or Dutch with the matching option.
Getting more out of a check
- Pick the exact English variant. “Colour” is flagged in US English but correct in UK English, and the reverse applies to “color”.
- The counter under the box turns red when the text passes the 20,000-byte limit per check. Check long documents section by section.
- The free API allows about 20 checks a minute. If you see a “Too many checks” message, wait a minute before trying again.
- Read each suggestion before applying it. Automated checks miss some errors and flag some correct text.
Grammar Checker: common questions
Is my text sent to a server?
Yes. The check happens on LanguageTool’s servers, so your text is sent to their public API each time you click Check text. Brisqnex doesn’t store it.
How much text can I check at once?
Up to 20,000 bytes per check — roughly 20,000 characters of plain English, fewer if the text has many accented or non-Latin characters. Split longer documents into parts.
Why is a correct word marked as a spelling mistake?
It isn’t in the dictionary for the chosen language — common with names, product names and technical terms. Click Ignore to dismiss it.
Will it catch every mistake?
No. It finds many common spelling, grammar and punctuation problems, but it can’t judge whether your facts or meaning are right. Hearing the text read back with Text to Speech is a good final check.
